LA SOGLIA

ovvero la fiaba delle due principesse

The Threshold; or, The Fairytale of the Two Princesses

Fantasy – 8 min – Produced by anima films at the L’Orto del Mondo Workshop

Synopsis
Once upon a time, there were two princesses. One belonged to the species Homo sapiens, the other to Canis lupus familiaris. This fairytale tells of how the two princesses changed places. An experimental film that explores the theme of duality by crossing the threshold between the human and the animal.

This short film was developed under the mentorship of Michelangelo Frammartino as part of L’Orto del Mondo, a filmmaking workshop created by Giovanni Cioni and Ludovica Fales.

Director’s Statement
A threshold is a magical place of encounter—a space where one can move beyond one’s own limits and enter the territory of the other. Told in the form of a fairy tale, this short film stages a double metamorphosis: from human to animal, and from animal to human.

Cinema has the power to transform our perception of the more-than-human world: animal, plant, and mineral. Where do the true boundaries between these worlds lie? Do they really exist? Or are they porous thresholds, constantly crossed and redefined? This film was born from a desire to explore that liminal space, where specific species identities dissolve and every form of life can recognize itself in the other.
